 THE VOICE OF KAZANLAK

The Kazanlak artist Dimitrios Papadakis won the valuable Award of the Union of Bulgarian Artists for his participation in the tenth edition of the International Biennial of Small Forms in Pleven. The painter was born in 1956 in Kazanlak, in a family of political emigrants. Dimitrios is a graduate of the Kazanlak Art High School, and then graduated from the National Academy of Arts, majoring in "restoration". He has a physiognomic style with the use of encaustics, which makes his works easily recognizable. His paintings are owned by art galleries and private patrons around the world.

Over 300 participants from 12 countries sent over 700 works to the Biennale, from which 270 artists were selected with 530 works in various genres - painting, graphics, sculpture, collage, mixed media. Traditionally, the prestigious forum was attended by authors from Great Britain, Bulgaria, Poland, Italy, Russia, Belgium, Romania, India, Brazil. The winners were determined by a jury chaired by Lyuben Genov, who is also head of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. The award for foreign author was given to the Polish graphic artist Jakob Zdeyshi.

Despite the Kovid-19 pandemic, the organizers of the Pleven Art Gallery "Ilia Beshkov" tried to create a coherent organization; in addition, they printed a luxury catalog of selected works.
